XML files that record data or events.
Tag
Microsoft Word can use the XML tag to add and organize information. The tag is composed of three parts: the 'name' or 'tag name', the 'data type', and the 'value'. The default value of the name and data type are listed in parentheses after the tag name.
Tag Example
To add a tag, enter the name followed by a closing bracket:
In this example, the XML file contains three tags. The first (Format > Tag > Enter) tag is the one entered above. The second (Format > Tag) is the tag which is the parent of the first tag. It contains the same name and data type as the first tag but adds a child tag with the same name but a different value. The third tag (Format > Tag) is the same as the second tag, but it adds a different child tag. Notice that the two child tags of the Format tag have the same data type.
In Word, if you want to display a tag in a document or in a document's Outline, you must follow the tag with a '.' character, which displays the tag in bold.
